Hunan Yuneng New Energy Battery Material invests €800 million in a cathode factory in Extremadura The Regional Government of Extremadura, through the Ministry of Economy, Employment and Digital Transformation, and the Chinese company Hunan Yuneng New Energy Battery Material, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of advancing the development of a cathode materials factory (lithium iron phosphate) for electric batteries in the city of Mérida. The space needed for the implementation of this factory is 480,000 square meters with an investment of €800 million, as well as the creation of 500 direct jobs. Through the management of the Investment Attraction Service, multiple work meetings have been held to help the Chinese business group decide on Extremadura, as well as the project of the Chinese multinational Envision to build a gigafactory in the Cáceres municipality of Navalmoral de la Mata for the manufacture of lithium batteries for electric vehicles. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has granted a grant of €200 million and a loan of another €100 million to the developer.
