Statkraft to develop four new solar PV plants in the region

Projects in the energy sector and renewable energies continue to be one of the objectives of foreign investment in Extremadura. A new example is the company Statkraft, the leading producer of renewable energy in Europe and a leader in the power purchase agreement (PPA) market, which will develop the Zajuril renewable complex in Cáceres, four new photovoltaic solar plants (Pinea, Calzadilla, Ahigal-Cerezo and Guijo), with a total installed capacity of 492 MW and an estimated investment of €295 million.

The company already has two emblematic facilities: Talayuela Solar and Talayuela II and, with a clear commitment to environmental sustainability, continues to work on the design of measures that contribute to improving biodiversity in natural environments of great value, favouring the maintenance and conservation of existing ecosystems.

Once operational, these four facilities will produce enough energy to supply more than 340,000 homes with clean, indigenous and affordable electricity annually. In addition, its production from an unlimited source such as the sun will prevent the emission of more than 300,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The company estimates that the construction of the 4 plants will mean around 1500 jobs, of which a good part will be local.

These types of projects, based on the exploitation of renewable energy sources, have a positive impact on Extremadura and are a benchmark for economic, environmental and social sustainability.
