Naturgy embarks on the construction of the largest photovoltaic installation in Spain, in Extremadura

05 六月 2024

Campo de Arañuelo, the photovoltaic plant that paves the way for the energy transition

Naturgy, a Spanish company that operates in the electricity and gas sectors, has been championing the ecological transition at all levels for years and is dedicating a considerable amount of resources to move away from the use of coal and towards more sustainable energies.

Of the more than 195 renewable energy projects that Naturgy has internationally, about thirty are in Spain: these are photovoltaic plants and wind farms that will allow the incorporation of nearly 1.5GW. Of these, the most important facility is the one being built in Campo de Arañuelo, in Cáceres, which will be the company's largest in the Iberian Peninsula.

It is a plant that has an investment of more than €150 million on an area of 290 hectares in which around 515 GWh/year of renewable energy will be produced annually, an amount equivalent to the electricity consumption of 157,100 homes. It will have a peak power of 300 MW and will avoid the emission of 250,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

In addition to Campo de Arañuelo, the Merengue and Merengue II and Puerta del Jerte wind farms in Plasencia, the Miraflores photovoltaic plant in Castuera, and the El Encinar I, Los Naipes and Los Naipes II photovoltaic plants in Badajoz are already active.

With all this, Naturgy consolidates its leading role in the energy transition towards a circular and decarbonised economy model.
