The German company Turn2X chooses Extremadura for the operational development of its pilot plant.

15 三月 2024

The project consists of a green natural gas production plant

After having successfully developed the green natural gas production technology in Germany, the company Turn2X has completed the process of moving its pilot plant to the municipality of Miajadas, in the province of Cáceres in Extremadura. There, it presented its green gas production project, as well as its expansion strategy with new implementations.

The German start-up's choice of Miajadas is explained by the advantageous conditions offered by the industrial estate in the town of Extremadura, as it meets all the necessary requirements to carry out the project in a real environment: industrial land that is immediately available at very competitive prices, guarantee of supply of the power required by the plant,  water resource in the vicinity of the facility and capacity and proximity to the gas network plant to evacuate the green gas produced.

The technology developed by the company makes it possible to generate methane gas from the electrolysis of water and recombination of separated hydrogen with CO2. This project, which has obtained funding from the European Union, will start producing energy from the second half of 2024.

Invest in Extremadura has supported and accompanied Turn2X throughout the process of evaluation, implementation, decision-making, commercial and administrative management, etc., for the materialization of the project. It will be the first electrolyser to be implemented in Extremadura and the second in Spain, reinforcing the region's position on the renewable energy map. In addition, it is important to highlight the strong component of innovation and technological increase that the project brings to the Extremadura science and technology ecosystem.

The company's presentation will be attended by investors from Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain, as well as from the European Investment Bank and private banks, customers and industry in general. Also present will be some representatives of the European Union, promoters of projects in the renewables, hydrogen and biogas sector, as well as the international press.

Given its modular design, the pilot plant that comes into operation is scalable, which will enable the German company to expand into other areas, contributing decisively to the decarbonisation process of the European economy.
