45% of generation came from clean energy

A study by the Renewable Energy Observatory of Foro Sella has revealed that, in 2023, renewable energies in Extremadura grew by 10.5% more in installed capacity thanks to photovoltaic installations. Thus, electricity generation reached a record of 29,721 gigawatt hours, 13.3% more than the previous year, covering 54.9% of the demand of the national electricity system last year.

The largest increase in renewable generation in 2023 is located in Extremadura (31.9%), which has managed to position itself as a leader in photovoltaic energy, increasing its installed capacity from renewable sources by 1,114 megawatts to reach 9,669.

Renewable energies covered 281.5% of the region's electricity demand (4,761 GWh), proving to be a great opportunity for Extremadura to advance in decarbonisation and generate cheaper and more sustainable energy. This challenge is having a great impact on attracting industrial projects to the region that require photovoltaic plants for self-consumption.
