Spain has huge untapped potential to increase solar and wind power generation and its ambition is to become a key producer of green hydrogen, seen as a key element of Europe's transition away from fossil fuels.

It has come one step closer to reality with the approval by the EU of a public aid of €1,200 million for the Spanish renewable hydrogen industry  that will be disbursed through a competitive bidding system.

Production plants with a capacity equal to or greater than 100 megawatts will be able to apply for state aid to develop hydrogen valleys throughout the country.
