The railway terminal of the Badajoz logistics platform is now a reality

30 Sep 2024

The facilities will be inaugurated next week, but they have already begun to receive rail traffic to have the containers necessary to operate.

The goods terminal is located next to the conventional train track, which connects Extremadura with Portugal through Badajoz and the works have involved an investment of more than 12 million euros.

For the management of the terminal, the Government of Extremadura, through Extremadura Avante, has established a mixed company with the participation of the Portuguese operator Medway, which will also work in the railway facilities of the Expacio de Mérida and Navalmoral de la Mata parks.

The new freight terminals in Badajoz, Mérida and Navalmoral de la Mata are for the regional Government one of the great competitive advantages that Extremadura has to attract investments, since these facilities are located next to industrial sites with the capacity for the implementation of big projects. The connection with the railway network allows the transport of goods to the ports of Sines (Portugal), Algeciras or Valencia, among others. Plus, the park placement next to highways allows for rapid transport by truck.

Junta de Extremadura plans to hold a visit to China before the end of the year to strengthen ties and try to attract investments. The plan being worked on will affect the electric vehicle, renewable energy, tourism, agri-food and new technologies sectors.
