The Alqueva floating solar park, located less than 50 km from Extremadura, has been recognised for its revolutionary approach to renewable energy generation. Combining sun, water and cork, this pioneering project has been awarded by the European Commission for its innovative character.

It is the largest platform in Europe that produces solar energy in a reservoir. With an area of approximately four hectares, it houses 12,000 solar panels supported by 25,000 floats, standing out for its avant-garde elements: floats made with a combination of cork and recycled plastic. Developed by Isigenere and Amorim Cork Composites, they have reduced the weight of the platform by 15% and decreased the carbon footprint by 30% during its production.

The recognition granted by the European Commission not only highlights the innovative technology developed, but also the role of the project in the expansion of renewable energies and the energy transition.
