Spain and China sign an agreement to promote renewable energies Extremadura leads the use of these energies

27 Jul 2023

Spain and China signed an agreement in July to boost renewable energy. The agreement, signed by the Industry Ministers of both countries, aims to develop solar, wind, hydroelectric or biomass energy projects in our country.

Extremadura, especially, has great potential for the development of renewable energies, with a great solar irradiation, an important availability of water and a long tradition in the agri-food industry. The agreement will allow Spain and China to share knowledge and experiences in the development of renewable energy projects, as well as identify cooperation opportunities for the development of projects in Spain and Extremadura.

The region has the potential to become a major producer of renewable energy, both for the Spanish domestic market and for export. The agreement with China will help accelerate the development of renewable energy in Extremadura and contribute to the global energy transition.

The development of renewable energies includes a series of benefits and opportunities well known to society, such as:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions: renewable energies are a clean energy source, which does not produce greenhouse gas emissions. This helps reduce the environmental impact of energy production.
  • Creating jobs: the development of renewable energies creates new jobs. This helps to reactivate the economy of Spain and/or Extremadura.
  • Attracting foreign investment: the development of renewable energy attracts foreign investment from companies around the world. This helps diversify our economy.
