Envision will soon begin work on its lithium battery gigafactory

11 Mrz 2024

Extremadura aspires to position itself throughout the Electric and Connected Vehicle value chain

Envision, the Chinese giant that manufactures lithium batteries, maintains its plan for the creation of a battery manufacturing ecosystem for electric vehicles in Spain and make the country "the center of its activities in Europe." To this end, among other planned investments, the company has announced that it will begin the construction of its gigafactory in Extremadura in the coming months, in which it plans to invest €2,500M and for whose operation it will need around 3000 employees and specialized technicians from August 2025.

Envision's plan is based on the development and manufacture of batteries from a zero-emission plant, integrated into different electric platforms, including a system of removable batteries and adapted for other innovative mobility models. It will be installed on a plot of 1,088,399 square meters, in the industrial park of the town of Navalmoral de la Mata in Cáceres.

The project has been awarded a grant of €200 million, plus a loan of another €100 million through the PERTE for electric vehicles. This is one of the projects with which Extremadura openly positions itself in the new models of sustainable mobility based on the VEC, the final link in the lithium value chain, a strategic mineral abundant in the subsoil of Extremadura.

From the outset, Envision's project had the support of Invest in Extremadura and the public company Extremadura Avante, which owns the industrial land of ExpacioNavalmoral. Invest in Extremadura provides soft-landing, support and personalized accompaniment to foreign companies that wish to invest in projects that involve the start or expansion of an economic activity in the region.
